Day +4: Hold on!

Claire arrived last night for a weekend visit - the perfect antidote to fatigue and lethargy. This morning we walked around the floor, caught up on news, played with the iPad, called Kelly on speaker phone, played some music and enjoyed the view from the Sky Lounge. Julie and Claire wandered on Hawthorne St. for a few hours this afternoon. They came back for dinner (Lebanese takeout for them, low bacteria hospital "room service" for me) and now we are choosing our evening video entertainment from the iPad.

We are "holding on" together.

And as often happens, I'm reminded me of a good Tom Waits song. Here's a couple versions that I admire:

Hang on everybody! Have a happy weekend... and GET OUTSIDE!

  1. Dear ones,

Hold on indeed. I am sorry you have to experience neutropenia. It is the bitter end of the yucky cells leaving so they can be replaced by healthy new cells. So now you to celebrate two birthdays you lucky! I guess you really earned the second birthday didn't you. I am glad Claire made it home to be with you. Julie and Mark thanks to both of you for keeping up the post. Sorry I missed a couple of days.

    Hello to Grace.

Take care all of you. Hold on. What a beautiful song and do it.

I will hopefully be in PDX may 5 & 6. If you are up for a visit, I will check in.

Holding you in my thoughts. MA

  2. Mark and Julie, thanks for the posts and 'profile in courage' the Bosworths' are showing us all. It was great that Claire made it out to join you This week was GIS in Action at PSU. It was very successful with 300 participants and Mark, you'll be pleased to hear; there were 80 students- a record! I received a "life-time-achievement" award, which is appreciated and reminded me of my old guy post-career status as a done-it, not a doing-it.

  3. Hello from Ann Arbor, Mark and Julie. So glad you are staying strong through these challenging days. We're praying, asking the kids about you, and reading your blogs to stay close to you in these days. So glad that Claire and Kelly (on speaker phone) are there to add the beautiful harmonies to "hold on". Love and support from Peggy, Doug, Brian and the girls.

  4. You sound good, positive and upbeat, I'm glad. We'll see you back at work in no time. I am sure that once your back in the grind, you will have wished for more time away. See you soon!

  5. Mark,

Thanks for the links to the versions of "Hold On." I had not heard that song before. Loved it, especially the Redbird version. "Hold On" seems a good theme song for this stage of your journey. Greetings to Claire! Patricia and the boys send a hearty greeting, too.

    1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.
